“Auld Lang Syne” is a Scots poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and made into a traditional folk song (Roud # 6294). Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers shirt. The song is known in many different countries, especially English-speaking countries, and is traditionally sung as a farewell to the old year in the eve of the eve. In addition, it is also widely used in funerals, graduation ceremonies, and as a way of saying goodbye or ending something in other cases. International Boy Scouts movements, in many countries, use it almost as much as you do camp meetings (jamboree) and other activities. The Scots poem title can be translated into standard English meaning “old long since”, or carries more language features (idiom), “long long ago”,  “days gone by” or “old times”, ie “it’s been a long time”. The phrase “For auld lang syne”, therefore, appears in the first line of the chorus that can be roughly translated as “for old memories” (“for (the sake of) old times”).
